Description
1981 Suzuki GT250 X7 – Iconic Two-Stroke – 9,573 Miles Displayed Here we have a superb example of one of the most iconic lightweight Japanese motorcycles of its era the Suzuki GT250 X7. First registered on 31st March 1981, this UK market X7 is finished in striking white with black pinstriping and red Suzuki graphics and displays just 9,573 miles. The X7 needs little introduction to anyone who was riding motorcycles during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Lightweight, quick and powered by Suzuki’s lively 249cc air-cooled two-stroke parallel twin, coupled to a six-speed gearbox, the X7 earned itself a reputation as one of the quickest 250s of its generation and became famous for its association with the magical 100mph 250 claim. This particular bike presents extremely well throughout. The paintwork is excellent, the chrome remains bright, the engine and alloy finishes are particularly clean and, with its cast wheels, twin clocks and unmistakable X7 styling, it’s a motorcycle that really does take you straight back to the golden era of Japanese two-strokes. The motorcycle carries frame number GT2502-505*** and engine number GT2502-******, with the engine number corresponding with that recorded on the V5. There’s a lovely story behind this. A previous owner had owned a motorcycle carrying this registration back in the 1970s when he was just 17 years old. His original bike subsequently disappeared from his life and was eventually believed to have been scrapped or otherwise lost. Many years later, he managed to acquire the registration number from the bike he’d owned as a teenager and transferred it onto this Suzuki X7. It meant that, every time he looked at the bike, it carried the same registration he remembered from being 17 years old a wonderful little piece of nostalgia. The private registration currently remains with the motorcycle. However, it can be removed if required, allowing the motorcycle to revert to its age related W suffix registration, understood to be WYA 25W. The X7 is now a genuinely collectable Japanese classic. So many were ridden hard, modified or simply disappeared over the years that finding a nicely presented example today is becoming increasingly difficult. For anyone who remembers the smell of two-stroke, the sound of a 250 twin coming onto the power and the freedom these bikes represented when you were young, an X7 is about much more than simply owning an old motorcycle. 1981 Suzuki GT250 X7 249cc air-cooled two-stroke twin Six-speed gearbox First registered: 31/03/1981 9,573 miles displayed Frame: GT2502-505296 Engine: GT2502-106911 Private registration currently fitted Original age related registration understood to be WYA 25W A beautifully presented example of one of Suzuki’s most memorable two-strokes and a motorcycle that will bring back plenty of memories for anyone who grew up around these bikes. Viewing welcome and highly recommended. Please note regarding the registration: The private registration currently displayed on the motorcycle was fitted by a previous owner for sentimental reasons, having owned a motorcycle carrying that registration when he was 17 years old. The registration was subsequently acquired by him many years later and transferred onto this X7. We understand the Suzuki’s original age related registration to be WYA 25W. Should the new owner wish to retain/remove the private registration, the motorcycle can be returned to an appropriate age related registration through the DVLA. We would recommend confirming with the DVLA that WYA 25W will be reassigned before assuming that specific registration is guaranteed to return to the motorcycle.
